A lot of our students have a job, family or want to limit their study time to a certain number of hours a week. Therefore, we have developed a program, in which you still learn the fundamentals of drawing and painting, while being flexible in time.
This program’s content is similar to what our full-time students learn, but not as intense. To achieve this, we had to leave out the figurative classes. These classes can still be selected additionally. You can start with 3 hours a week up to 15 hours a week depending on how much time you have to spare. When registering, you have to define the days and times which will be fixed for the registered trimester. It is possible to register for the following trimester selecting more or less hours. Our flexible program has been designed for a standard duration of 3 years, just like our full-time studies. If the attendance is less than 12 hours a week there will be fewer main projects or the study duration could be a little longer.

The first-year focus is on drawing. You will learn how to draw in “sight size”. Starting with drawing from lithographs, which are copies from the famous Charles Bargue, will give you an easy access to copying proportions and learning about values. This is a fundamental approach to prepare you for later drawing from real 3-dimensional objects or models. After learning these basics in graphite, you will start your studies in charcoal, working from casts (sculptures). Our teachers’ main focus in this year will be on: Line drawing, mass drawing, values, anatomy, line quality, modelling & visual impression.
During the second year, our students will start to paint in oil. Our teachers will train you, using a slow and systematic approach. They will let you start painting in grisaille (only black and white). The focus in this year will be on: Basics in painting, color theory, creating good support, use of mediums and paint application. The first projects will be done working from a cast. Thereafter the first still lifes with a limited palette will be painted.
The third-year focus is on using a full palette. Still lifes will be getting more complex and our students are supposed to make more decisions on their own. The students will gain a deeper understanding of previous learnings.
When registering for our flexible program, you can select our additional model drawing class. “Model drawing” or “figure drawing” is the portrayal of a naked human body. It is one of the most difficult practices in art and serves as an exercise for proportion studies. It helps you knowing and portraying the proportions and anatomy of the human figure.
You will learn figure drawing in a professional, optimal atmosphere. Whether you will be using graphite or charcoal, you will be taught in a traditional manner. Through attending this class, you will gain a reliable understanding of drawing from start to finish, focusing on tonality, anatomy and proportions.
