Art is more than Talent - It’s Passion

The fact that art takes passion in addition to talent is something every student at the Academy of Fine Art Germany may know from own experience. Many hours of training and many hours of work have to be invested - something that would be impossible without a passion for creating art - before one ends up with a completed piece — That is art.
What a pity it would be to not share one’s own achievement, the incorporated ideas and the creativity with others…
The Academy of Fine Art Germany has hence decided to make it possible for their students to enter an exhibition with their teachers and other professionals. It would be our pleasure to welcome You as a guest to our exhibition in the name of all partaking artists

What You need to know:

All works will be exhibited for four weeks at the Kulturzentrum Englische Kirche (Ferdinandstraße 16, 61348 Bad Homburg v.d.H.).

The Vernissage will be held at Friday, the 20.05. at 7pm. Naturally, entry is free.
Visitors can look forward to, after a welcoming by the magistrate of the city of Bad Homburg and an introduction through an Academy representative, spending an evening in pleasant atmosphere between numerous artworks.

Additionally, visitors can expect an indeed special Special Act: Peeking over the artists’ shoulders while they are at work. Here, students and teachers will demonstrate how exactly they draw in their academic education.

The Vernissage takes place under current Covid19 regulations. Anybody wishing to attend the event is kindly asked to sign up at:

Thu-Fri 4-7 pm
Sat-Sun 2-6 pm
Ascension Day (26.05.) & Corpus Christi (16.06.) 2-6 pm

During the opening hours, two students, teachers or alumni will gladly answer your questions about the Academy, the artist and their artwork.

The majority of exhibited works is up for sale to art enthusiasts, collectors and all those wanting to support the aspiring artists in this way.

Who exhibits what?

The artworks that can be admired reach from those of students at the beginning of the drawing program over the ones of more advanced painting students to those of teachers and professional artists. Here, the most different materials, techniques and themes meet on the walls (and floors) of the Englische Kirche.
Hence, a small peek into the exhibiting artists and their exhibits:

Students

Most students of the Academy of Fine Art exhibit one or more of their works in the Englische Kirche during the next weeks. Often, not only their academic works can be admired, but their private ones as well. This permits the visitor a small insight into the teachings of the Academy, but also the different styles that develop next to and thanks to it.
In some cases, the private works may vary significantly from the academic concept, creating refreshing variety in the exhibition and emphasizing the artists unique style at the same time.

  • „I am exhibiting my painting ‚A Star in the Garden’. This painting has an expressionistic style and depicts a landscape.
My social and academic surrounding will support me on [the day of the opening] by showing the clothes I designed on live models. These will be used for the live drawing performance
[note: the Special Act at the Vernissage]. This will influence me and my future. Coming art projects at the Academy will [also] help me create a new trend in fashion with my clothes.“
    — Taha (1. Trimester, Fashion Designer / Part Time Student in Drawing)

In other cases, the exhibition offers students who have been creating their own art for a longer time a first ever chance to make their works known and even find potential buyers. At this,  Academy offers them support in their first professional sales.

  • „I am exhibiting three paintings from 2012, all, from my Fukushima cycle. I hope to sell the paintings and spark public interest.
After graduating from the Academy, I want to mainly keep creating my own works, but I could also imagine myself teaching others for a while. Because of helping in the preparations for the exhibition and my previous study in art history, I could also imagine working at a gallery or as a curator.“

    — Christine (2. Trimester, Freelance Artist / Full Time Student in Drawing)

For some students then again, the exhibition is the perfect opportunity to learn as much as possible about life in the professional art world and find out how the public reacts to their own works. This can be important especially to those who create art concerning topics they hold dear - Positive feedback can support them in future plans and ultimate set them upon their road towards their dream career.

  • „I exhibit a lot of things, eight works all in all, [among these] are casts I drew in the Academy, additional to some personal works […]. The latter go more towards the fantastic area, because I enthuse about the things going on in the imagination of people. Myths, fairy tales, […] but also [history] and the things that concerned people back in the days are always a great inspiration to me and that’s why my works usually develops around these topics.
I really wanted to take part in such a project because it gives you a lot, personally. You can get a first impression of the professional life of an artist, which I find absolutely interesting. Additionally, I hope to get much feedback from the outside, which shows me how people usually not involved in art react to my works […], and maybe an interesting conversation will ensue.
In general, I can say that I essentially want to do way too much [after I finish at the Academy]. Actually, I wish to go on to working in the video game industry und developing worlds which other people can dive into when they simply need another place to be than reality. But the work of an illustrator is also compelling because I love books - especially the well [illustrated ones].
My dream is to definitely earn my own money with my art, but I want to take my time doing that and help other people as much as possible before doing this.“
    — Sofie (6. Trimester, Full Time Student in Painting)

Of course, every student presents their own works and draws individual benefits from the exhibition and especially the feedback from the visitors - no matter whether it’s regard the pure experience or the final result.

Teachers and other established Artists

In addition to the students, the teachers of the Academy of Fine Art Germany are also exhibiting their works, just like some alumni. Among these works, not only academic drawings and paintings of highest artists skill can be found, but sculptures too. And naturally, the personal styles create an interesting variety throughout the big picture of the exhibition here as well.
The exhibition of teachers is a true enrichment not only to the visitors, but also to the students themselves, who now get the chance to take a direct look at where their academic studies can take them.
Completed through the sculptures of artists Maudie Brady and Jana Büttner, as Wellas the works of digital artist Max Riess, the exhibition offers a wonderful profile of the possibilities of artistic creation open to an aspiring academic artist in their future.

In conclusion, an exhibition of different drawings, paintings and sculptures awaits the eager visitor— offering something for everyone’s personal taste or interest, whether to buy or just to admire.
The Academy of Fine Art Germany and further exhibiting artists would be glad to soon welcome you as a visitor to our exhibition.
